International Service

Service Above Self – Everywhere

Rotarians support both their local and global communities.

Our members contribute to The Rotary Foundation which contributes financial support to efforts both huge (worldwide polio eradication , for instance) and more modest (funding scholastic resources in underserved areas, for instance).

In addition, our club invests some of the funds we raise into direct support of worthy causes outside the US.  Most recently we have contributed, along with other U.S. clubs, to fund a computer lab at a school in Tecate, Mexico.  The project is led by the local Rotary club and funds not only hardware but, equally importantly, internet connectivity.  This in turn expands the awareness, thinking, and connectedness of these students, opens new horizons to them, and supports their ability to in turn think globally.

Another international service we support is the Free Wheelchair Mission (see Projects page for link) which provides wheelchairs to disabled persons in underserved areas of the world.  Every week, in thanks and recognition to our program speaker, instead of giving them a mug or pen or other tchotchke, we make a contribution the Free Wheelchair Mission.

Over the years our club has supported a great number of projects in Caborca, Mexico, and we have participated in polio immunization trips there as well.  We provided (and delivered in person) many suitcases of supplies and community support contributions to the manufacturing location of StoveTeam Int’l which provides safer and much more fuel efficient cooking apparatus to impoverished families; this both protects them in several ways, and reduces deforestation.   In addition for the past several years our members have participated in a home-build in Mexico with the Corazon organization (their equivalent of Habitat for Humanity).
