Guide Dogs of America

By | July 16, 2015

Our first meeting of the Rotary year, July 8, was a Club Assembly, where new president George Wilson and his Board members presented their goals and vision for the coming year.

So July 15 was our first “regular format” club meeting, where we learn from a guest speaker about something worthwhile in our community.  We were delighted to welcome Tina Lockwood, a longtime “puppy raiser” for Guide Dogs of America.  She brought puppy-in-training Bandit, who apparently has learned to post for photos.  We also  received gentle education in the etiquette for interacting with a service puppy in training.

We learned about the origins of GDA, their funding sources (and our support opportunities), the GDA breeding program, training, and even various career paths the dogs might follow since they don’t all “graduate” and get matched with a blind partner.
